11/27/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations November 25 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan:
Sangin
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces patrol. When enemy forces were observed acting in an unusual manner, a request for air support was made. A show of force was performed on the enemy position ending the enemy action.
Farah
A-10 aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces patrol and reconnaissance of the area. When the patrol reported taking enemy small arms fire from rooftops, a request for air power assistance was made. When the point of origin for the enemy fire could not be confirmed, shows of force were made to deter the enemy action. The shows of force were successful in stopping the enemy fire.
Soltani
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon and Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft flew armed overwatch and area reconnaissance for Coalition forces. When the Coalition forces reported suspicious enemy activity in the area, a request for air power assistance was made. The enemy positions were confirmed and precision guided munitions released on the targeted positions. The munitions destroyed the enemy positions and ended the threat to the Coalition forces.
Shurakian
F-16C aircraft were performing armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy insurgents were observed at an enemy treeline position, the coordinates were confirmed and precision guided munitions were deployed on the enemy position eliminating the potential threat to friendly forces.
Karokh
A-10 aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was requested when the aircraft checked on station. The show of force was performed (with flares expended) and declared successful in its intention to deter enemy action.
Konduz
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft were providing armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. They were also conducting surveillance and reconnaissance of the area. The convoy requested a show of force to deter any potential enemy action while enroute to their destination. The show of force was performed and declared successful when no enemy action was noted.
Balocan
Air Force MQ-9A Reaper aircraft performed armed overwatch of friendly forces. When enemy forces were observed laying command wire and emplacing an improvised explosive device, a missile was fired at the enemy position eliminating the threat to friendly forces.
Sheykhabad
Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the aircraft were on station, shows of force were requested and performed. The shows of force were successful in their intended purpose.
