11/24/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations November 23 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Konduz
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon and F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft provided armed overwatch and surveillance for friendly forces. When enemy small arms fire was reported, a show of force was performed to deter threats to friendly forces. The enemy fire increased and another show of force was performed. The enemy fire still continued and a third show of force was performed (with flares expended) and the show of force was considered successful when no enemy action was noted. Finally, enemy small arms fire broke out again and precision guided munitions were released on the enemy fighting position, destroying the position and ending the enemy fire.

Asadabad
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft provided armed overwatch and surveillance for a friendly forces convoy. A show of force was performed and successfully deterred enemy action.

F-15E provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was requested to deter potential enemy action against the friendly forces. The show of force was considered successful when no enemy action was noted.

Chahar Bagh
Coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was requested when the friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. The show of force was considered successful when the enemy action ceased, allowing the friendly forces to slip away.

Salerno
Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircraft provided armed overwatch and surveillance for a friendly forces convoy. When suspicious activity was reported along the convoy route, a show of force was performed to deter enemy threats. The show of force was considered successful when no enemy action was noted and the convoy passed without incident.
