Naval Support Activity Bahrain Commanding Officer Relieved

NAPLES, Italy (NNS) -- The commanding officer of Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain was relieved of command November 23 due to loss of confidence.

Rear Adm. David Mercer, commander, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia, relieved the commanding officer of NSA Bahrain, Capt. John Schoeneck, due to a loss of confidence in Schoeneck's ability to command.

Capt. Fred Capria, deputy commander, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia, has been named as the interim commanding officer of NSA Bahrain. He will be replaced by Capt. Enrique Sadsad in an assumption of command ceremony scheduled for December 6.

Schoeneck has been temporarily assigned to the Naval Forces Central Command staff in Bahrain pending further personnel actions.
