SPOKANE, Wash. (NNS) -- Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Spokane held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 13 to celebrate the resurfacing of the drill deck after more than 10 years and three name changes.
The drill deck now reflects the seal of the U.S. Navy rather than that of the outdated Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center.
"Our new drill deck with the Navy seal causes all who drill here to walk taller and smarter," said Chief Damage Controlman Martin Remle, senior enlisted leader for NOSC Spokane.
NOSC Spokane is in the process of a compete facelift, which will include a fresh coat of paint, new carpet in the main building, new paint on the landing craft static displays, and a new guard shack at the main gate – complete with heat, air conditioning and lights.
"We are excited to see NOSC Spokane's physical appearance mirror the pride and professionalism of all the Sailors who drill and work here," said Lt. Cmdr. Kim Pizanti, commanding officer of NOSC Spokane.
NOSC Spokane is home to 10 Reserve units, more than 200 drilling Reservists, 12 staff and a Marine battery. The $140,000 in improvements to NOSC Spokane are expected to be complete by Dec. 31.
