11/23/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations November 22 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Chahar Bagh
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported taking enemy small arms fire, air support was requested. A show of force (with flares expended) was performed and declared successful when enemy fire ceased.

Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircraft were performing armed overwatch for Coalition forces. When the Coalition forces reported taking enemy small arms fire, a show of force was requested. When the show of force was performed, it was deemed successful when no further enemy fire was noted.

Asadabad
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported being hit with enemy small arms fire, the coordinates for the point of origin for the enemy fire were confirmed and passed to the aircraft. A precision guided munition was employed on the enemy position and the threat to friendly forces was eliminated.

Konduz
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly force patrol returning to base. When the patrol reported receiving enemy small arms fire and mortar fire, a request for air power assistance was made. The aircraft responded with shows of force (some with flares expended) over the points of origin of the enemy fire causing the enemy to cease firing.

Gereshk
Navy F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft conducted armed overwatch for a Coalition forces convoy. The aircraft performed shows of force (some with flares expended) over a known enemy fighting position near the convoy route to deter any potential activity. The shows of force were considered successful when no enemy action was noted.

Shahidan
Air Force B-1B Lancer aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy that had struck an improvised explosive device. The convoy reported enemy activity in the area and requested a show of force to deter enemy aggression while they destroyed the damaged vehicle. The show of force was successful in deterring enemy action in the area.

Abchakan
F-16C aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces dismounted patrol. The patrol reported enemy activity in the area and requested shows of force to deter potential

Lashkar Gah
F/A-18F aircraft were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported enemy activity in the area, a show of force was requested. The coordinates for the show of force were passed to the aircraft and the show of force performed. The show of force was successful in deterring enemy action in the area.
