11/19/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations November 17 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Chahar Bagh
Coalition aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. Weapons were utilized and a show of force performed to support the friendly forces.

Abchakan
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. A show of force was requested to deter enemy action while the convoy was enroute. The show of force was successful as no enemy action was noted.

Asadabad
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircraft were also providing reconnaissance of the area. A request for elimination of a known enemy fighting position was made and precision guided munitions were released on the enemy fighting position which destroyed the position.

F-15E aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police forces reported taking enemy small arms fire. The enemy forces then fled to a nearby town and dispersed. The aircraft then performed a successful show of force to keep the enemy forces scattered.

Tarin Kowt
Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft conducted armed overwatch for a Coalition forces convoy. The convoy reported receiving enemy rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire and requested air support to terminate the enemy action. The point of origin for the enemy fire was confirmed and coordinates passed to the aircraft. A precision guided munition was targeted on the enemy position and delivered on target, destroying the enemy position.

An Air Force MQ-1B Predator aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. When the convoy reported taking enemy small arms fire, aircrews identified the enemy fighting position and fired missile that successfully destroyed the enemy fighting position.

Shkin
Air Force B-1B Lancer aircraft were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported suspicious enemy activity at a previous enemy position, precision guided munitions were deployed on the enemy fighting position and ended any further enemy action.

Farah
F/A-18E aircraft were providing armed overwatch and route surveillance for a friendly forces convoy. As the convoy approached a village known as a hotbed for anti Coalition force activity, shows of force were requested to deter any potential enemy aggression. The shows of force were considered successful when there was no enemy action noted.
