11/16/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations November 14 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Sangin
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy forces fired on the friendly forces, a request for air support was made. A show of force was performed (with flares expended) and the enemy fire ceased.

Air Force MQ-9A Reaper aircraft were performing armed overwatch and area reconnaissance for friendly forces. When enemy personnel were observed massing at an enemy fighting position, a missile was launched and the enemy target destroyed.

Chahar Bagh
Air Force B-1B Lancer aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported taking enemy small arms fire, a request for air power assistance was made. A show of force was conducted over the enemy position was made due to enemy forces close proximity to friendly forces. The show of force was declared successful as the enemy fire ceased and the enemy forces left the area.

Asmar
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The friendly forces reported receiving indirect enemy fire but point of origin could not be identified. Further enemy fire allowed enemy position to be identified and coordinates confirmed. A precision guided munition was released on the enemy position, destroying it and ending the enemy fire. Later, enemy forces were observed massing at another enemy position and a precision guided munition was employed on this enemy position eliminating a potential threat to friendly forces.

Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. When enemy personnel were observed approaching the convoy, a precision guided munition was released. Prior to impact, civilians were observed mingling with the enemy personnel and the precision guided munition was diverted into a mountain side to avoid non combatant casualties.

Tirgari
F-15E aircraft were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the aircraft arrived on station, a request for a show of force was received to deter any potential enemy action. The show of force was successful as no enemy action was noted.

Surkhabad
B-1B provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy activity was observed monitoring friendly forces, the aircraft performed a show of force to deter any enemy action. The show of force was successful in deterring enemy action.
