11/15/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations November 13 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan:
Asadabad
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. When enemy forces were observed committing hostile acts, a request for air support was made. Precision guided munitions were released on the enemy fighting position ending the enemy action.
Qal-E-Naw
Air Force MQ-9A Reaper aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and reconnaissance of the area. When enemy action was observed at a known enemy position, and weapons were positively identified in enemy possession, precision guided munitions were released on the target.
Chahar Bagh
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft flew armed overwatch for friendly forces. When the friendly forces reported taking enemy small arms fire, a request for air power assistance was made. Shows of force were conducted over the enemy position and the shows of force were declared successful as the enemy fire ceased.
Kandahar
MQ-9A Reaper aircraft were performing armed overwatch for friendly forces. When enemy personnel were observed digging on the side of the road, they were confirmed as Improvised Explosive Device emplacers and a missile was fired at the position eliminating the potential threat to friendly forces.
Qalat
Air Force B-1B Lancer aircraft provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A show of force was requested when the friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. The show of force was successful in its intention to deter enemy action.
Tirgari
Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft were providing armed overwatch for friendly forces. They were also conducting surveillance and reconnaissance of the area. When friendly forces reported being hit by mortar fire, the point of origin was confirmed and precision guided munitions released on the enemy target. The enemy fighting position was destroyed.
F-16C aircraft were providing armed overwatch and area reconnaissance for friendly forces. When suspicious activity was observed at an abandoned outpost, precision guided munitions were released on the position.
Almar
A-10 aircraft performed armed overwatch of friendly forces. When an airdrop was made in the area, a show of force was requested to deter any enemy action in the area and to maintain local populace interest in the airdrop. The show of force (with flares expended) was performed and considered successful.
Sheykhabad
F-16C aircraft conducted surveillance and reconnaissance for a friendly forces convoy. When an improvised explosive device went off, the aircraft performed a show of force when the medevac team arrived to deter any enemy action. The show of force was successful in deterring enemy action.
F-15E aircraft were flying armed interdiction for friendly forces. A request for a show of force to deter any anti-Afghan force activity in the area was made and the show of force successfully performed.
