ATK Begins Deliveries of Load-Bearing Vests for U.S. Marine Corps
ATK's Wholly-Owned Subsidiary, Eagle Industries, Rapidly Producing Vests to Support Urgent Requirement for Marines in Afghanistan Eagle Scalable Plate Carrier(TM) Lightens the Load for U.S. Marines
Nov 10, 2009
MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has commenced deliveries of the Scalable Plate Carrier(TM) (SPC) for the U.S. Marine Corps. The first production run of 10,000 SPCs, which began on September 1, was completed and delivered on October 15. From February 2008 through January 2010, ATK will have delivered approximately 65,000 SPCs and components to the U.S. Marine Corps.
ATK has consistently demonstrated the capability to respond promptly to the critical needs of the Armed Forces. In 2008, ATK's wholly owned subsidiary, Eagle Industries developed, produced and delivered the Marines' urgent requirement of 15,000 SPCs. Rapid fielding of the SPC is imperative as the U.S. Marine Corps continues deployments into Afghanistan. Marines operating at high altitudes require a lighter ballistic protection capability and the SPC exceeds that requirement. Benefits of this system include the SPC's slim design and highly adaptable configuration, offering increased maneuverability and survivability for the Marine.
"ATK's expertise in customized mission-essential products sets us apart from our competitors. Our unique manufacturing capabilities greatly enhance our response time, from concept to large scale production, without compromising quality," said Mark DeYoung, ATK Senior Vice President and President Armament Systems. "Our customers continue to rely on us to deliver the best value solutions, regardless of complexity, or urgency of requirement."
