
Recovery Act Will Install New HVAC Rooftop Units in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Souza Construction of Farmersville, Calif., a one million dollar Recovery Act spawned contract to install new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) rooftop units on Navy and Marine Corps buildings in San Diego Sept. 15.
"NAVFAC is proud to support the president's initiative to jump start the economy and strengthen America's middle class, while improving the quality of life for service members, their families and DoD civilians," said Jay Sithideth, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project. "This project is intended to modernize the HVAC system and will provide much needed improvements to enhance America's energy independence."
Souza Construction will provide all labor, supervision, engineering, materials, equipment, tools and parts, supplies and transportation completing all work to remove and replace the existing array of HVAC units with more efficient and longer lasting units. Included in the project are the demolition and reinstallation of power control boxes, reconnection and replacement of the buildings' control systems or thermostats, and updating or replacement of roof curbs.
The work is expected to be complete by September 2010.
