SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Marcon Engineering Inc. of Escondido, Calif. a $968,147 Recovery Act funded contract task order Sept. 15 to repair and modernize Marine Corps Reserve Training Center facilities at Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Seal Beach.

"The project will repair and modernize various elements of the USMC Reserve Training Center at NWS Seal Beach and improve the functionality of this critical resource." said Glen Ellis, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for Public Works Department at the Seal Beach NWS. "Improvements that include a new howitzer storage building, enlarged armory, marksmanship simulation training room, expanded secured communication gear storage room, and parking lot upgrades will directly enhance the readiness of Marines while helping to jumpstart the economy."

Macron Engineering Inc. will replace a gun shed carport with a pre-fabricated steel building, construct an armory, convert a classroom to an electronic simulator training area, install a glass door and panels in the front of the administration office, install and expand storage cages, repair and expand the Marine Reserve parking lot, install a concrete pad to accommodate a gun display, and extend a parking lot to provide a safer turn radius for vehicles.

"The resources directed by the Recovery Act and injected into the economy through projects like repairing and modernizing admin and warehouse at the USMC Reserve Training Center at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach will allow small business such as Marcon to continue to grow and contribute to our great nation." said Maryory Contreras, Marcon Engineering Inc. president and chief executive officer.

The contractor will complete work by fall 2010.
