SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Allen Engineering Contractor Inc. of San Bernardino, Calif. a $425,613 Recovery Act contract Sept. 15 to replace a generator set with new static frequency converters at Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command in San Diego.

"We're proud to support the president's initiative to stimulate the economy and put people back to work," said Jay Sithideth, NAVFAC Southwest construction manager for the project. "The Act will help fuel America's middle class to be strong and provide opportunity to re-live the American Dream."

Allen Engineering Contractor Inc. will demolish and remove two 400 hertz motor generator sets, install two static frequency converters, install one power shutoff switch, and install wiring and connections. At the completion of this project, two new frequency power converters will be installed and will function without interrupted power usage.

"Allen Engineering Contractor Inc. is proud to be a part of the project," said Jon Blumenthal, Allen Engineering Contractor Inc. project manager. "This project will support the government's ongoing initiative to become more energy independent while helping to stimulate the economy by creating job opportunities for Allen Engineering Contractor, our subcontractors, and our suppliers.

Work is expected to be completed by April 2010.
