JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $15.2 million military construction (MILCON) contract Sept. 28 to Walton Construction Company, LLC of Dallas to build a Security Forces Complex at Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB), Shreveport, La.

"This contract award is a major milestone in consolidating Barksdale's security forces mission," said Col. Steven Basham, 2nd Bomb Wing commander. "The complex will provide our Airmen a state-of-the-art workplace as part of an ongoing effort to modernize base facilities."

The project will include the design and construction of a new 46,000-square foot Security Forces Complex to include spaces for administration, control center, jail, armory, supply, classrooms and vehicle maintenance.

Design and construction also includes associated storage, utilities, parking, site improvements, built-in equipment requirements, access and antiterrorism force protection.

This contract includes work to demolish and relocate two existing softball fields that are currently occupying the site.

Sustainable features will be included in the design, development and construction for the project, and the project requires Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The expected completion date for all work on this contract is February 2011.
