JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $22.2 million military construction (MILCON) contract at Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC), Jacksonville, Fla., Sept. 23 to Mid Eastern Builders, Inc. of Chesapeake, Va.

"This MILCON demonstrates the Navy's continued commitment to environmental stewardship by upgrading the facilities with the latest technology for safe storage and movement of petroleum products. This new system meets all Florida 2010 environmental standards and is a state-of-the-art storage and distribution system," said FISC Jacksonville Commanding Officer Capt. Karl F. Rau. "FISC Jacksonville and the NAVFAC team have put forth an incredible effort to get this project approved, designed and awarded."

Work for this contract involves the demolition and construction of seven steel above ground bulk fuel tanks and replacing five with new similar sized tanks at the same location.

The project will also remove the underground piping from the pump station located at the intersection of Second Street and B Road to the last of the bulk storage tanks along B Road and replace it with above ground piping.

The expected completion date for all work on this contract is September 2012.
