PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Repairs and upgrades to 3rd Marine Battalion headquarters building at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds will be executed under a $2.7 million contract awarded by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii Sept. 28.
"This project will perform significant interior and exterior repairs and improvements to the aging 3rd Marine Battalion headquarters building, which is prominently located on the installation," said NAVFAC Hawaii Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Kaneohe Bay Lt. Jennifer Steadman-Murphy.
"It's going to be a huge improvement for folks working in the building."
The indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contract task order was awarded to Su-Mo/Nan joint venture. Su-Mo Builders is a small disadvantaged 8(a) business which operates from Honolulu, Hawaii. Nan, Inc. is also based in Honolulu. The exact contract amount is $2,671,453.
During the course of the project, significant exterior and interior repairs will include replacing windows and frames, installing new roofing, overhauling restrooms, upgrading electrical, replacing interior doors and installing air conditioning units. The project is expected to be completed by June 2010.
This is NAVFAC Hawaii's fifth ARRA project.
The Department of Defense received $7.4 billion from the ARRA, which is less than one percent of the $787 billion total amount. The Navy in Hawaii received $124 million to modernize Navy and Marine Corps shore infrastructure, enhance America's energy independence, and sustain a steady and robust Maritime Force for decades.
