JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $7.3 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) multiple award construction contract (MACC) at Naval Station (NS) Mayport for construction of a child development center to Sauer Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla., Sept. 15.
"We take great pride in the quality of life we enjoy out here and having this facility built will certainly be a welcomed part of our naval station landscape," said NS Mayport Commanding Officer Capt. Aaron Bowman.
Work to be performed provides for the construction of a 23,940-square-foot one story child development center at NS Mayport.
The outside spaces will include storage, shade structure, play ground and equipment, fencing for controlled areas and paving and site improvements.
The project will demolish Building 371, an approximately 1000-square-foot building made of concrete masonry walls and wood truss, or conventionally framed wood roof structure.
This is the second task order on this MACC that was originally awarded June 3.
Work for this task order has an expected completion date of March 2011.
ARRA projects are intended to modernize Department of Defense shore infrastructure, enhance America's energy independence and sustain a steady and robust military force for decades.
