ROTA, Spain (NNS) -- Naval Station Rota Weapons Department officially became Navy Munitions Command (NMC) Detachment Rota during a ceremony Sept. 21.
"On behalf of Capt. [Bette] Bolivar, welcome to the NMC family. Our number one job is supporting the warfighter and making sure we deliver ordnance on time," said Cmdr. Ken Dalton, executive officer of NMC Continental United States East. "It is also supporting the installation commanders in his job in supporting the fleet and the region. So from this level, we do what we do best, moving ordnance safely."
Headquartered in Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Va., NMC functions as the Navy's center for ordnance management for shore stations worldwide by providing retail ammunitions management, operating explosives ordnance storage, outloading, and transshipment facilities.
Chief Warrant Officer Roddy Wiggins, who became the first officer-in-charge of the detachment, said it will be business as usual.
For many, the transition will be seamless.
"NAVSTA Rota still has operational control of the work being done here," said NAVSTA Rota Commanding Officer Capt. Bill Mosk. "You are going to be doing the same thing you do every day: moving ordnance, moving weapons, safeguarding inventorying, all those things that we do so well, will continue to do. Keep it up."
