SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Stronghold Engineering Inc. of Riverside, Calif. a $9.9 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funded contract Aug. 28 for a bachelor quarters modernization at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore.
"With larger rooms, new furnishings, and new heating and air conditioning systems, this ARRA project to renovate barracks will dramatically improve living conditions for 130 of NAS Lemoore's junior enlisted Sailors," said Cmdr. Machelle Vieux, NAVFAC Southwest Public Works officer at NAS Lemoore. "Additionally, the project will correct long-standing problems with the roof and plumbing systems and bring the facility up to current anti-terrorism, force protection standards. This project will employ workers from a wide-range of construction trades and help the economy in an area experiencing 14 percent unemployment."
Stronghold Engineering Inc. will provide all the necessary work for the design and construction to repair and convert 130 rooms which currently provide a shared single room. The conversions will feature two private sleeping rooms with closet, a shared bathroom, kitchenette, an area for stackable washer and dryer, telephone, Internet, and cable TV capability in each private room. The planned modification is for the associated furniture, fixtures and equipment necessary for a complete usable facility.
"Stronghold Engineering, Inc. is pleased and fortunate to be awarded the barracks renovation at NAS Lemoore. Stronghold has successfully collaborated with the Navy on countless projects in the past, and envisions another teaming success with the Navy on this design build project," said Chuck Gossage, Stronghold Engineering Inc. vice president.
Work for this project is expected to be completed by January 2011.
"Stronghold is excited to commence working on the design and construction of this project in an effort to deliver to air station a modernized and high quality living facility," said Gossage. "When completed, the much needed renovations will provide the installation with comfortable and enjoyable living space consistent with the highest of standards. It will greatly improve the residents' quality of life. With this project, the Navy and Stronghold Engineering will immediately create new and sustaining jobs, immediately expend funds that help stimulate our improving economy, and construct a project that the Navy and general public can be proud of given the source of funds. Stronghold is very pleased to continue its partnering effort with Navy to deliver the highest quality of design build projects for the use and benefit of NAS Lemoore."
