Georgian Officials Say Railway Blast Terrorist Act
September 15, 2009
ZUGDIDI, Georgia -- Georgian officials say there was an explosion at the railway station in the Georgian town of Zugdidi, RFE/RL's Georgian and Russian services report.
Local authorities told RFE/RL that an explosive device was put by unknown assailants under an empty train car. Nobody was hurt.
This is the fourth explosion of that kind in Georgia's Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, near the border with the breakaway region of Abkhazia, this year.
Georgia's Interior Ministry has not commented on the incident yet. Investigations are under way.
