PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific awarded Core Tech International Corporation, of Barrigada, Guam, a $13.9 million, firm-fixed price contract Aug. 25 for upgrades to the wastewater collection system on Naval Base Guam.
The work to be performed is for the design and construction to replace and rehabilitate sewer lift stations and sewer pipelines in the collection system of the Apra Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant.
"The continued effective and reliable treatment of waste water is a cornerstone of our environmental stewardship on Guam, and upgrading the Apra Harbor Wastewater Treatment Plant will ensure that our systems continue to operate efficiently to support Naval Base Guam now and into the future," said NAVFAC Marianas Commanding Officer and Joint Region Marianas Regional Engineer Capt. Peter Lynch.
Antiquated sewage lift stations will be replaced with new facilities that provide increased capacity and system reliability, and pump station controls and emergency generators will be placed in structures hardened for typhoons. Sustainable design principles will be integrated into the design, development and construction of the utility plant building.
"Strong and dependable infrastructure is vital to sustaining efficient operations on any military installation. This is especially important on an island with precious natural resources that we are dedicated to preserve," added Lynch.
Work is expected to be completed by September 2011. The exact amount of the contract award is $13,892,789, and it was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online website with six proposals received.
