VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- The chief of naval personnel visited Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana to speak with Sailors at Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 136 "Knighthawks" about current Navy personnel policies and initiatives Aug. 19.
"First, and most importantly, I want to take the time to thank you all for the great things you do," said Vice Adm. Mark Ferguson.

CNP discussed topics including the physical fitness uniform, commissioning opportunities for enlisted Sailors, the Civilian Accreditation Rating program, and Montgomery and Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits.
"I was so glad that Vice Adm. Ferguson stopped by to talk to us," said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class (AW/SW) John Paul Piluden, "not only did he answer my question about individual augmentee (IA) … he gave more information that I didn't realize before."
In addition, Ferguson encouraged Sailors to carefully balance life work, maintain a healthy life and use the tools available to achieve success. He explained the support system of the Navy and how to make it work to the maximum benefit of each Sailor.
"Don't be afraid to ask for help along the way. All of the resources are there," said Ferguson.
Ferguson is responsible for the planning and programming of all manpower, personnel, training and education resources, budgeting for Navy personnel, developing systems to manage total force manpower, personnel training and education resources, and the assignment of all Navy personnel.
