
Pacific Partnership 2009 Arrives in Kiribati

BETIO, Kiribati (NNS) -- Pacific Partnership 2009 (PP09) assets arrived in Betio, Kiribati, Aug. 23 aboard underway replenishment ship USNS Richard E. Byrd for a 14-day mission.
PP09 works by, with and through partner nations, non-governmental organizations and other U.S. government and international agencies to execute a variety of humanitarian civic assistance (HCA) missions in the Pacific Fleet Area of Responsibility.
PP09 is a four-month mission focused ashore with a variety of engineering, medical and dental civic action programs providing HCA to the people of the Pacific.
A team of PP09 assets will conduct medical, dental, veterinary and engineering civic action programs at locations throughout Kiribati, to include Bonriki, Tungaru, Tobontemaneaba and Betio.
For this mission, Byrd has been outfitted with HCA equipment and supplies and a staff augmented with a robust multi-specialized team of preventive medicine personnel, veterinarians, medical and dental teams and engineering personnel.
Building on partnerships forged in previous missions, the PP09 team includes military, government and civilian personnel from Australia, Canada, Korea and the United States.
