SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Toltest Inc., of Maumee Ohio, a $1.7 million American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funded contract Aug. 7 for the repairs to gas pipe at Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.
"I am honored to work with NAVFAC on a project that supports the president's initiative to jump start the economy and put people back to work," said Viet Nguyen, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project.
"NAVFAC will ensure that ARRA funds will be spent as quickly as possible; the project delivery team put in a tremendous effort to award this contract on schedule and within budget. This gas pipe repair project provides much-needed improvements to the infrastructure at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, while improving the quality of life for service members and their families."
Toltest Inc., will perform all the necessary work to repair all existing steel and PVC pipe and to install a new polyethylene gas pipe, located at "Area 62" of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Toltest Inc., will provide work for potholes on all existing utilities at the crossings, pavement, sidewalk, curb, gutters and traffic control.
"We are excited by this award and eager to start work at this key U.S. Marine Corps installation," said Ernest Enrique, Toltest Inc., owner and vice president.
"This infrastructure modernization project would not be possible without the ARRA funding program. In the spirit of the program, we intend to subcontract a significant portion of the project to local subcontractors, which will in turn be a boom to the local economy. We will fast-track the project to ensure minimal impact to mission-critical base operations."
Work is expected to be completed by May 2010.
