JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Navy Region Southeast Reserve Component Command (NRSE RCC) held a change of command ceremony at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville Aug. 7.
Capt. Rey Consunji relieved Capt. Randall Snyder as commander, NRSE RCC.
Rear Adm. John Messerschmidt, commander Navy Reserve Forces Command, was the guest speaker. During the ceremony, he praised Snyder's accomplishments during his tour as commander of the Navy Reserve's largest region and thanked him for his help in ensuring that our citizen Sailors are "ready now, anytime, anywhere."
Under Snyder's command, Region Southeast mobilized more than 1,500 Selected Reservists and individually deployed 55 full time support personnel to locations around the world. NRSE RCC also weathered an active 2008 hurricane season that included the successful mustering of more than 30,000 personnel in response to multiple hurricanes and mandatory evacuations impacting the region. As part of the ongoing process to take care of both the Sailor and the family, RCC also conducted six returning warrior workshops. These workshops spanned the region from Austin, Texas to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Snyder's 24-month tour at NRSE RCC was cut short when he was selected by Vice Adm. Dirk J. Debbink, chief of Navy Reserve, to serve as his chief of staff.
During the ceremony, Snyder thanked the RCC staff and the 28 Naval Operational Support Center (NOSC) commanding officers in Region Southeast reminding them that they are all "truly where the rubber hits the road and the work really gets done every day." He welcomed Consunji and wished him well.
Consunji, a native of Guagua, Pampanga, Philippines, entered the Navy in 1984 after graduation from Auburn University. He received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program and was designated a naval aviator in 1986. In 1992, Consunji was redesignated as a Training and Administration of Reserves Officer. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Auburn University as well as a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. His most recent assignment was as the commanding officer of NOSC St. Louis.
