SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Synergy Electric Company Inc. of Santee, Calif., a $4.6 million Recovery Act funded contract June 30 for repairs to communication cables on ranges at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.
"This project to repair communication cables at Camp Pendleton will implement a robust and much needed communication backbone for Navy and Marine Corps military operations," said Jermaine Starks, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project.
Synergy Electric Company Inc. will perform all necessary design and construction of a new communication system consisting of fiber optic and telephone cables from Basilone Road to Buffalo Bump Compound 4.1 miles of concrete encased duct bank, 3.5 miles of new overhead pole line, and .6 miles of existing overhead pole line will be installed. This project scope includes excavation, trenching, concrete encasement of PVC ducts, hand holes, conduits, setting poles, installing overhead and anchor cables, cable terminations, and cable splices.
"The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act Contract provides the crucial funds needed to get this job done and coupled with Synergy Electric's proactive small business subcontracting program, will provide opportunities for local contractors and get America back to work," said Diane Keltner, Synergy Electric Company Inc. president.
"In this day and age we sometimes take for granted that communications is a simple and easy task. With much of this project located adjacent to live firing ranges on Robolar Road, remote and difficult terrain this project dispels the "simple" myth. The project will install communications lines, underground and overhead from a point of connection on Basilone Road up to a communications building atop Buffalo Bump peak. With the existing communication system in disrepair and inoperable it is critical to get this project going and get the base communications re-connected "
Work is expected to be completed by January 2011.
