PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific awarded AMEC-Nan Joint Venture LLC, of Honolulu, Hawaii a $9.6 million, firm-fixed price, award fee task order on July 31 for the construction of a new child development center at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.
The contract was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, and was the first task order issued under the Global Multiple Award Construction Contract that NAVFAC Pacific recently awarded.
"The funding for this facility came about at a great time," said Marine Corps Base Hawaii Public Works Officer Lt. Cmdr. Lance Lee. "The new CDC will really benefit our Marines and Sailors and their families on base."
The work to be performed provides for a modern, low-rise child development center of reinforced masonry construction with insulation, a climate-controlled heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning system, fire protection and alarm system.
The work is expected to be completed early 2011. The exact amount of the contract award is $9,643,900, and it was competitively procured with 10 proposals received.
The Department of Defense received $7.4 billion from the ARRA, which will modernize Navy and Marine Corps shore infrastructure, enhance America's energy independence and sustain a steady and robust maritime force for decades. In order to help put local contractors to work, ARRA funds will be spent as quickly as possible.
