SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded EPC Corporation of Glendale, Ariz. a $1.2 million Recovery Act funded contract June 15 for sanitary sewer improvements at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, Ariz.

"I am honored to work with NAVFAC on a project that supports the President's initiative to provide quality work to hard working Americans," said Ken Simmons, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for this project. "This sewer improvement project provides needed repairs to the infrastructure at Marine Corp Air Station Yuma that will subtlety help support the Marine's success."

EPC Corporation will perform the improvements to the existing sanitary sewer system at various locations throughout MCAS Yuma. This project will include cleaning and photographing of the existing sewer mains, repair of the indicated segments using a pipe-bursting method or a cut and cover method of installation, construction of new manholes, rehabilitation of existing manholes, provision of a temporary bypass pumping of sewage, reconnection of service laterals, restoration of the construction site, and traffic control.

"EPC is extremely pleased to have been awarded this project to replace various sections of the sanitary sewer system at the Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Ariz.," said Don Costello, EPC Corporation San Diego regional manager. "Not only will this project improve the reliability of the sanitary sewer system for the base and all of the Marines and their families who are stationed there and train there, but it will re-employ dozens of construction workers for six to eight months."

Work is expected to be completed by July 2010.
