Gaza wedding blast leaves at least 35 Palestinians injured
14:2322/07/2009 GAZA, July 22 (RIA Novosti) - Some 35 people were injured when a bomb exploded during a wedding party in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical sources said.
The blast ripped through the wedding of Mahmoud Dahlan, nephew of the former Fatah security chief Muhammad Dahlan, on Tuesday night in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
Medics said that ten people, including children and the groom, were seriously hurt in the blast which the Interior Ministry described as being caused by "a sound bomb."
Other media sources have reported that 52 people were injured in the blast.
An official police spokesman said three people, who were at the wedding, had been arrested, adding that there was no connection between the incident and the political differences between the rival Hamas and Fatah groups.
Fatah leader Muhammad Dahlan did not attend the wedding.
Muhammad Dahlan's security forces were pushed out of the Gaza Strip by Hamas following a split in June 2007. Hamas has retained power in the enclave of 1.5 million, independent of the officially recognized Fatah government in the West Bank which is headed by Mahmoud Abbas.
