SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Reyes Construction Inc. of Pomona, Calif. a $849,000 Recovery Act funded contract July 2 to repair an ordnance access road at Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz.

"The Ordnance Access Road repair project will replace an old deteriorated asphalt pavement road to improve the functionality of this critical resource," said Doy Crouch, NAVFAC Southwest supervisory architect at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma.

"The new road will improve access to new training facilities and existing airfield areas. These improvements will enhance the readiness of Marines and Sailors aboard Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, and we are proud to support ARRA and the economic benefits it will provide."

Reyes Construction Inc. will repair the air station's ordnance access road, commonly known as Frazier Ave. The contractor will reconstruct the ordnance access road from South Ordnance Road north to the intersection with Vaupell Street. Existing pavements will be demolished, cleared and grubbed. The contractor will construct and install a hot mix asphalt pavement, paved turnouts, chain-link fencing and gates, pavement base course and erosion control. The project also includes construction of excavations and embankments and preparation of pavement sub-base.

"Reyes Construction is delighted to have been awarded this contract to repair the Ordnance Access Road at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona," said Joe Reyes, president of Reyes Construction Inc. "The infrastructure changes resulting from this project will undoubtedly improve accessibility on this site for years to come."

Reyes Construction Inc. will complete work by December 2009.

"Work on this project is expected to commence immediately, which will enable us to retain employees in this geographic area and continue to support the local economy through subcontract and material purchase opportunities," said Ricardo Jimenez, vice president of Reyes Construction Inc. "We look forward to partnering with the Navy in the successful execution of this project."
