Stout Improves Maritime Partnership in Batumi, Georgia

BATUMI, Georgia (NNS) -- USS Stout (DDG 55) pulled into port in Batumi, Georgia, July 14 while on deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet Area of Operations.

The focus of the port visit was to strengthen relationships in the Black Sea and increase maritime security in the region.

"The hospitality Georgia has extended to Stout has been overwhelming," said Cmdr. Mark Oberley, commanding officer of Stout. "We hope to carry Rear Admiral Herald Stout's distinguished service in our mission to strengthen ties of cooperation and trust with our friends here in the Black Sea."

While in port, Stout conducted visit, board, search and seizure and damage control training with members of the Georgian Coast Guard.

The training evolutions where designed to build professionalism and trust between the nations, furthering their efforts to achieve a secure maritime environment in the Black Sea.

"Our commitment to enhancing our maritime capabilities will improve our ability to cooperatively execute joint peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in the Black Sea," said Oberly.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer Stout is homeported in Norfolk, Va.
