NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Officer In Charge of Construction Marine Corps Installations East (OICC MCI East) awarded $4,587,471 to R&W Construction Company, Inc., a local construction firm from Jacksonville, N.C., July 16, to provide for major interior and exterior repairs at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River.
The firm received the award through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. The contract provides for new flooring, ceilings, toilet fixtures, HVAC systems, lighting and roofing systems and repainting of all normally painted surfaces at buildings AS4157 and AS4158.
"This work will provide higher comfort levels for residents while increasing building efficiencies in cooling capability. This can only result in greatly reduced energy costs and a higher quality of life," said Cmdr. Cheryl Hansen, commanding officer, OICC MCI East, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic.
This is the 16th Marine Corps project to be funded through ARRA at Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River, combined.
OICC MCI East, located at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, is the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic field office responsible for construction award and execution of ARRA projects at Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River.
OICC MCI East and NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic work in close coordination with Marine Corps leaders and planners who identify base requirements, then plan and program projects to meet these requirements.
This project, as well as the others funded under this act, will also create many jobs in the local economy. Future ARRA projects at MCI East bases in North Carolina will include major contracts for the interior and exterior renovation of buildings, energy, lighting, mechanical and HVAC systems upgrades and roof replacements.
As an integral part of the NAVFAC enterprise, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic manages the planning, design and construction of shore facilities for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps from Maine to North Carolina.
