Local support for Thales ground surveillance radars in Saudi Arabia

20 July 2009

Thales is setting up a local facility to provide technical support services for ground surveillance radars BOR-A and Squire, selected for several applications in Saudi Ara-bia. Thales has a long experience in supplying Saudi security forces with ground sur-veillance radar systems.

This facility will provide customers with technical support, maintenance, training and final assembly and will coordinate these activities with the out-of-Kingdom Thales outlets. The aim of such proximity with users is to ensure reactivity and local expertise.

These services are related to field-proven new generation ground surveillance radars already used by military and security forces around the world:

* The long range BOR-A radar family is manufactured by Thales in Germany. The BOR-A offers unmatched detection and classification performances against hostile incursions by pedestrians, vehicles or boats by day and night, even under severe en-vironmental conditions. It is currently deployed in all type of configurations, stand-alone position, vehicle mounted or fixed on towers and integrated in regional or na-tional border surveillance systems where it represents a key asset.

* The light weight Squire radar is a low emitting power ground surveillance radar. Squire is virtually undetectable and easily carried in two handy backpacks. It also en-joys wide international recognition and has been selected for reconnaissance mis-sions, battlefield surveillance applications and protection of critical infrastructures.

This local support is in line with Thales’s international strategy, which sets close customer relations as a priority. The selection of Thales’s radars in Saudi Arabia recognises its exper-tise in the field of ground surveillance.
Thales is a supplier of key security and defence systems to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Past contracts include the supply of Electronic Warfare systems, Tactical Radios and Ground Surveillance Radars, Frigates, Air Defence systems as well as civil Air Traffic Control sys-tems. Activities also cover Security & Surveillance (Oil and Gas Facilities, Energy, as well as Urban Security), Telecommunications, Broadcast & Multimedia, and Ground Transportation (Signalling, Security, Fare collection).
