SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Baldi Bros., Inc., a small business in Beaumont, Calif., a $608,415 construction contract for an addition and alteration to an airfield parking spot at Travis Air Force Base (AFB) in Fairfield, Calif., June 25.

Funds for the awarded contract were provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

"This project will provide much needed improvement to one of the several base's aircraft parking areas which is a critical part of nearly 500 acres of ramp space," said Lt. Cmdr. Jason Zeda, NAVFAC Southwest resident officer in charge of construction at Travis AFB. "Due to deteriorated pavement and the potential of foreign object debris, Spot 607, one of 13 aircraft parking spots along one of the six ramps at Travis AFB, has been in a state of reduced capability. The repaired spot will ensure a safe and reliable area for aircraft to park and receive pre and post flight checks before transporting defense equipment and supplies around the world."

Baldi Bros., Inc. will perform work that includes all construction services to add and alter an airfield parking spot and remove and replace existing concrete pavement with new Portland Cement Concrete and Cement Treated Base, a grounding system for C-17 and C-5 aircraft.

"We are extremely proud to be part of the American Reinvestment Recovery Act, knowing that this contract, along with others throughout this nation, will be putting hardworking men and women back to work and giving our economy the jump start it needs - all of this while improving the lives of our service men and women and their families by spending these stimulus funds on our military to modernize infrastructures, which will help sustain our Navy, Marine, Air Force and Army bases for decades to come," said Debbie Saunders, Baldi Bros., project manager.

Work will be performed in Fairfield, Calif., and is expected to be completed by June 2010.
