
ARRA Contracts Will Improve Quality of Life in NC

NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Officer In Charge of Construction Marine Corps Installations East (OICC MCI East) recently awarded a number of contracts funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) that will bring significant improvements to various facilities at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River.
"These upgrades will provide higher comfort levels for residents while increasing building efficiencies. This can only result in a higher quality of life," said Cmdr. Cheryl Hansen, commanding officer, OICC MCI East, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic.
The following contracts were disbursed in late June to the following small businesses:
-- $3,121,000 to Alderman Building Company, Inc., a construction firm from Jacksonville, N.C., for the renovation and repair of the bachelor enlisted quarters (BEQ), Building AS4025, at MCAS New River.
--$2,100,892 to Lifecycle Construction Services, Inc., a construction firm from Washington, D.C., to replace existing exterior windows at 18 buildings at MCB Camp Lejeune, MCAS New River and Camp Geiger with antiterrorism/force protection (ATFP) and energy efficient windows.
--$7,308,437 to Quality Roofers & Guttering, Inc., a construction firm from Jacksonville, N.C., to replace existing roofs with photovoltaic (pv) roofing systems at Buildings 1116, 1117, 1211 and 1212 in the Hadnot Point area of MCB Camp Lejuene. The PV systems will generate 1 megawatt of electrical power for the base.
--$3,499,961 to North State Mechanical, Inc., a construction firm from Jacksonville, N.C., to replace mechanical, electrical and roofing systems at Buildings 1316 and 1317 at Camp Lejeune.
--$1,100,000 to MechWorks Mechanical Contractors, Inc., a construction firm from Beaufort, N.C., to implement water conservation measures at numerous facilities at MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River. The work includes the replacement of plumbing fixtures with high-efficiency, low flow technology and the installation of one advanced water meter to monitor water usage at Building AS4020 at MCAS New River.
--$6,274,035 to North State Mechanical, Inc., a construction firm from Jacksonville, N.C., for major interior and exterior repairs at Buildings 205 and 213 at MCB Camp Lejeune.
--$7,085,756 to Lifecycle Construction Services, Inc., a construction firm from Jacksonville, N.C., for major interior and exterior repairs at Buildings 312 and 313 at MCB Camp Lejeune.
OICC MCI East, located at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, is the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic field office responsible for construction award and execution of ARRA projects at Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River.
OICC MCI East and NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic work in close coordination with U.S. Marine Corps leaders and planners who identify base requirements, then plan and program projects to meet these requirements.
These projects, as well as the others funded under this act, will also create many jobs in the local economy. Fourteen ARRA contracts have been awarded by OICC MCI to date.
As an integral part of the NAVFAC enterprise, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic manages the planning, design and construction of shore facilities for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps from Maine to North Carolina.
