PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific awarded Kiewit Building Group, Inc. of Honolulu, a $24.4 million firm-fixed price contract July 6 for the construction of a new fitness center to meet the physical readiness, training, and recreational needs of military personnel at Naval Station (NS) Pearl Harbor.
"This new facility, which will be centrally located next to Club Pearl, will provide our Sailors and families a large, state-of-the-art fitness center for their workout activities," said Capt. Richard Kitchens, commanding officer, Naval Station Pearl Harbor.
In addition to the new indoor fitness center, construction work to be performed includes a new paved parking area with new access driveways, landscaping, and the demolition of four existing building structures.
Work is expected to be completed by November 2011. The exact amount of the contract award is $24,380,777, and it was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online Web site with six proposals received.
