ALA COU, Timor-Leste (NNS) -- Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 40 in Timor-Leste completed renovations at Ala Cou Barou School June 21.
The school, located in the Bonabaro district, is one of the many engineering civil assistance projects the Seabees are completing at the request of the Timorese government.
Working shoulder-to-shoulder with the villagers of Ala Barou Cou, the Seabees of NMCB 40 taught the villagers basic construction skills, including concrete sidewalk-repair, interior painting techniques and roof renovation.
After completing the work, the Seabees joined the children of Ala Cou Barou in a game of soccer and taught them how to play kickball.
Before leaving, NMCB 40 offered the children toys, clothes and school supplies that donated by personnel stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
The gesture touched both the villagers and the Seabees.
"I really feel like the time we've spent here has been great," said Builder Constructionman Gabriel Gallius. "I hope we have inspired them as much as they have inspired us.
