SPRINGFIELD, ORE. (NNS) -- Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Eugene is now known as NOSC Springfield.

The building of a new NOSC for drilling Reservists in Southern Oregon has been in the planning stages for years. Although the move has not happened yet, the name change is effective as of July 1.

"We are still working through getting the phone system and Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) up and running properly at the new building, and we don't want to move until that is completed," says Commanding Officer Cmdr. Jason Welch.

"We are planning to be at the new NOSC for the August drill," says Welch.

The new NOSC is located about nine miles from the old location in the city of Springfield. Once the move is complete there will be an official ceremony to mark the change. NOSC Springfield is the home to drilling Reservists from many areas of Oregon and they serve in six units and are supported by 12 active duty full-time support staff members.

NOSC Springfield is one of eleven Navy Operational Support Centers in Navy Region Northwest, which encompasses a six-state region with over 3,000 drilling Reservists.
