SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Sun Mechanical Co. Inc., of City of Industry, Calif., a $982,659 Recovery Act funded contract task order June 19 to repair air conditioning systems at Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz.

"The upgraded facility will improve the quality of life of military occupants," said Kasi Ramakrishnan, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for the repair project. "In addition to internal benefits to military, the project work will involve the use of local labor resources and materials and provide much needed boost to the city of Yuma's economy. No doubt the new upgraded facility will improve the personnel productivity and enhance the military personnel readiness."

Sun Mechanical Co. Inc. will replace existing sheet metal air supply ducts, chilled and hot water supply and return piping. The contractor will install new fan coil units (FCU), flow balancing valves, isolation valves, strainers, insulation, pipe insulation, condensate drain piping, new ductwork for air distribution, electrical power and control wiring and rooftop exhaust fans. Sun Mechanical will also provide larger air handling units to serve large rooms, conference rooms and classrooms.

"Sun Mechanical was founded by a former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee and has a strong understanding of what the nation's men and women in uniform need," said Jason E. So, Sun Mechanical Co. Inc., treasurer. "We are proud to support them via infrastructure improvements like this, contributing to a better quality of life for them, their families and their civilian staff."

Sun Mechanical Co. Inc., is expected to complete the work by spring 2010.
