GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (NNS) -- The Department of Defense's high-speed experimental boat Stiletto made a brief port visit to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Guantanamo Bay (GTMO), Cuba to replenish fuel and supplies June 19.

Stiletto is in the Caribbean supporting U.S. and multinational counter-illicit trafficking (CIT) operations and to conduct operational testing.

"I'm overall responsible for the safe navigation of the Stiletto on open waters and open transits," said Chief Warrant Officer Justin Trenary, the Army Detachment commander aboard Stiletto. "I'm also responsible for the welfare of the crew."

The vessel is designed for pursuit operations, specifically for illicit trafficking. It's been outfitted by several different companies for different surveillance operations.

Stiletto is on her second deployment in the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command area of focus. She has undergone testing by the Department of Defense for her usefulness in littoral operations and interoperable environments.

"We're a joint task force," said Trenary. "Stiletto houses Army and Navy personnel along with a Coast Guard law enforcement detachment."

"Everybody crosstrains with each other's jobs," said Special Warfare Boat Operator 1st Class James Hurley, one of the boat captains aboard Stiletto. "My communications, medic and navigator are one guy. (Because of cross training), he can jump in my chair and drive (and we can alternate)."
