British soldier killed in Afghan blast: casualties 167

London, July 12, IRNA -- Another British soldiers has been killed in Afghanistan, bringing the total number of British casualties to 167.
The soldier, from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, was caught in the blast near Kandahar on Thursday morning.
Next of kin have been informed, according to the Ministry of Defense (MoD).
The soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device during a planned operation. His death is the 28th casualty of British soldiers since the beginning of the current year.
This is a record number of deaths in six months since the war started in 2001.
Britain has 8,300 troops in Afghanistan which will be increased to 9,000 by August to provide the security of the next presidential elections.
