UAE has not confirmed Yamadayev death - Russian presidential envoy

RIA Novosti

15:0711/06/2009 MOSCOW, June 11 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow has not received documentation from the United Arab Emirates confirming the death of Sulim Yamadayev, but Russia is ready to cooperate in the probe into his assassination, a presidential envoy said Thursday.

According to Dubai police, the former commander of the Vostok Battalion in Chechnya was gunned down near his apartment in the United Arabic capital on March 28. Relatives, including his brother Isa, have said he survived the shooting and was in hospital.

"We have not received official legal confirmation that Yamadayev is dead," said Anatoly Safonov, a special envoy on international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime.

Russia's Interior Ministry said last Thursday that Interpol had issued warrants for the arrests of seven people in connection with the murder of Yamadayev.
