SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded EPC Corporation of Glendale, Ariz., a $3.65 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded contract June 2 to repair a water main at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC).
"The 20-inch water main repair project will replace a forty-year-old deteriorated system and improve the functionality of this critical resource," said Lt. Cmdr. Allen Sullivan, NAVFAC Southwest resident officer in charge of construction (ROICC) at MCAGCC. "These improvements will directly enhance the readiness of Marines and Sailors aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center."
EPC Corporation will repair a 20-inch water transmission main. The project will include the demolition and removal of a water reservoir, earthwork, asphalt concrete pavement repair, lead paint contaminated material removal and disposal, chain link fence and barbed wire marker fence installation; water system installation; and other work related to the repair of the water main.
"EPC is extremely pleased to have been awarded this project to replace five miles of 20-inch main transmission water line at the Marine Corps Air and Ground Combat Center," said Don Costello, EPC Corporation San Diego regional manager.
"Not only will this project improve the reliability of the water supply for the base and all of the Marines and their families who are stationed there and train there, but it will re-employ dozens of construction workers for six to eight months."
The contractor will complete work by spring 2010.
"The entire Resident Officer in Charge of Construction (ROICC) Twentynine Palms team is proud to support ARRA," said Sullivan. "We are looking forward to the economic benefits this project will provide to the region."
