US troops surge in Afghanistan to increase militants' infiltration
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, June 5, IRNA - Pakistan is concerned about the US military surge in Afghanistan as it could increase infiltration of militants and extremists to Pakistan from Afghan side, the Foreign Office spokesman said on Thursday.
Unveiling his new military strategy in February, US President Barack Obama approved despatch of 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan, saying the situation in that country, specially areas bordering Pakistan, needed swift attention.
Foreign Ministry spokesman also said at weekly briefing Pakistan is not comfortable with the term 'Af-Pak' and has conveyed its concerns to the United States on this issue and that of drone attacks.
He told a questioner that Pakistan-France talks on the framework civilian nuclear agreement would begin next month and hopefully concludes by the end of the year.
“The agreement would be signed on the occasion of French President's visit to Pakistan later this year”.
