MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) Sailors were selected for promotion at an extremely high rate during the spring 2009 advancement cycle, not an uncommon occurrence for Sailors forward deployed in Bahrain.

More than 60 percent of NAVCENT third class petty officers were selected for advancement to second class petty officer, which was more than three times the Navywide average. Likewise, more than 20 percent of NAVCENT second class petty officers advanced to first class petty officer, more than double the Navy average.

"NAVCENT's high advancement rate reflects both the quality of Sailors coming to this command and the forward deployed operational experience they get while they're here," said Capt. James Loeblein, chief of staff, NAVCENT.

"Our Sailors are making a difference every day through their direct support of warfighters on the ground and ships at sea in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Operations."

Duty in Bahrain brings around the clock operations where Sailors are supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, conducting counterpiracy operations and helping to bring security and stability to the region through maritime security operations.

"Sailors looking for a challenging assignment in a unique culture can find what they are looking for in Bahrain," said Chief Navy Career Counselor (SW/AW) Thomas J. Butler Jr., NAVCENT/5th Fleet Force career counselor.

"In 2008 we had twenty-six Sailors selected for advancement while assigned to NAVCENT; that's nearly thirty-five percent of all Sailors eligible for promotion. Navywide promotion rates were only about twenty-four percent."
