GROTON, Conn. (NNS) -- The crew of the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Hartford (SSN 768) held a change of command ceremony May 23 at Naval Submarine Base New London.

Cmdr. Robert Dunn relieved interim commanding officer Cmdr. Chris Harkins.

Dunn, a native of Prairie Grove, Ark., graduated with distinction from the United States Naval Academy in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He received a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in 1992.

Dunn previously served as executive officer aboard USS Ohio (SSGN 726) and engineer aboard USS Connecticut (SSN 22). His most recent assignment was as a member of the staff for Commander, Submarine Force Pacific Fleet.

Harkins took command of the submarine after the commanding officer of Hartford, Cmdr. Ryan Brookhart, was relieved on April 14 by Rear Adm. Michael J. Connor, Commander, Task Force 54 (CTF 54) and Commander, Submarine Group 7, following a collision in the Strait of Hormuz March 20.

Harkins returned to his duties as deputy commander, Submarine Squadron 8 in Norfolk, Va.
