Officials in Afghanistan say at least 24 people were killed in fighting, airstrikes and roadside bomb attacks across the country Wednesday.
In the latest violence, NATO officials say its troops, along with Afghan forces, killed 15 Taliban militants after they ambushed their base in southeastern Paktia province.
Officials say the troops engaged the militants in a five-hour firefight and called in airstrikes. No Afghan or NATO troops were killed during the clash.
Elsewhere in Paktika province, Afghan police say a district governor and his three sons were killed by a roadside bomb Wednesday.
In central Afghanistan, Afghan and U.S. forces say they killed four suspected militants and arrested at least five others during operations targeting the radical network of insurgent leader Jalaluddin Haqqani.
The commander is accused of planning attacks in the area, using suicide bombers with explosive devices.
And in eastern Kunar province, local officials say a civilian was killed when a missile landed in a farming area.
