Germany to boost Afghan military aid
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, May 23, IRNA - Germany is to spend additional 50 million euros for rebuilding the Afghan army amid the deteriorating security situation in the war-stricken country, the weekly Focus news magazine reported Saturday.
The extra financial assistance for the Afghan military will be allocated by the German Foreign Ministry. Germany's Defense Ministry is already spending 500 million euros each year for its military mission in Afghanistan as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
More than 3,500 German troops are presently deployed in northern Afghanistan and Kabul.
Berlin announced earlier this month that it was also ready to step up its training of Afghan security forces.
