NORFOLK (NNS) -- Friday, May 15, marked the conclusion of Surface Line Week 2009, a week of fun and competition in which Hampton Roads area surface warriors show off their professional and athletic prowess in a week-long series of competitive events.

Surface Line Week was an opportunity to promote greater coordination and communication among surface warriors, to build esprit de corps and camaraderie, and to recognize professional excellence across the Force.

The event featured professional competitions in seamanship, damage control and small arms to name a few, as well as athletic events like basketball and softball. The competitions brought out exciting displays of command pride, teamwork, and professionalism. Surface Line Week concluded with an awards ceremony and picnic.

The competition was hard fought with Afloat Training Group coming out on top as the overall winner and Medium Command category winner. The Large Command category winner was USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Assault Craft Unit 2 won the Small Command category.
