SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Allen Engineering of San Bernardino, Calif. a $216,000 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funded contract May 21 to renovate a lab at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD).
"The long anticipated and greatly needed renovation of the Mycology Suite at the Naval Medical Center San Diego will provide the laboratory personnel the safety necessary for their procedures while identifying the patient samples - many of them contagious - with this upgraded air-purification system," said Sam Kaplan, NAVFAC Southwest project leader for the renovation.
Allen Engineering Contractor Inc. will design and construct a Mycology Negative Pressure Lab at NMCSD. Renovation work will include the demolition of a shower, toilet and finishes, the removal of a ceiling and floor finishes, installation of a new drywall suspended ceiling system, seamless flooring and repainting, removal and relocation of interior doors and windows and equipment. Work will include the installation of a new negative pressure exhaust system and the modification of the existing exhaust system, including lighting, plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC).
"Allen Engineering Contractor Inc. is proud to be part of the project," said Stuart Faul, Allen Engineering Contractor Inc. senior project manager for the lab renovation. "This project will provide our service men and women with the quality of medical attention that they deserve while helping to stimulate the economy by creating job opportunities for Allen Engineering Contractor, our subcontractors and our suppliers."
