KINGS BAY, Ga. (NNS) -- USS Georgia (SSGN 729) (Blue) welcomed Brazilian Naval Submarine Tikuna (S 34) during a port visit to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay May 5.
Georgia (Blue) Commanding Officer, Capt. Brian McIlvaine, and his crew acted as host to the Brazilian submariners.
"It is an honor to host fellow submariners to Kings Bay and to our namesake state of Georgia," said McIlvaine.
While in Kings Bay, Brazilian sailors stayed with their U.S. counterparts in bachelor enlisted and officer quarters.
They also had the opportunity to explore the Kings Bay area and spend time with U.S. Sailors during several social events scheduled in their honor.
"This is the first port visit by BNS Tikuna to Kings Bay," said Cmdr. Nelson Nunes da Rosa, Tikuna's commanding officer.
The Brazilians capitalized on their recent journey to the 50th Unitas Gold exercise at Mayport Naval Station for the chance to mingle with fellow submariners by visiting nearby Kings Bay.
"In the name of Tikuna's officers and crew, thank you for making us feel like we are home," said Felipe Fampa, Tikuna chief engineer assistant and interpreter during a plaque exchange held at Finnegan's Irish Pub.
Aside from training exercises at Trident Training Facility, the Tikuna crew enjoyed various activities with their Georgia Blue hosts, including a barbecue, sporting competitions and boat tours throughout their stay.
